Roger Bassetto is an award-winning Brazilian visual artist, art director, and art educator based in São Paulo. Possessing over 20 years of commercial and fine arts experience, Bassetto bridges the worlds of advertising design and contemporary mixed media gallery practice. He is best known for his focus on drawing, sketchbooks, and expanded, conceptual forms of analog and digital collage.
An overview of his background, artistic focus, and professional career includes:
Fine Arts and Artistic Focus
  • Sketchbook and Diary Practice: A central tenet of Bassetto's daily studio routine involves working in artist notebooks. He uses these private pages to experiment freely with graphics, text layout, and structural forms.
  • Collage and Drawing: His public portfolio transitions these notebook experiments into large-scale works. His art explores the juxtaposition of meanings, unexpected graphic arrangements, and contemporary concepts built out of layered papers and illustration.
  • Livraria Pop: Cultivating the local art community, Bassetto was the founder and owner of Livraria Pop in São Paulo. The venue functioned simultaneously as a pop-culture bookshop and an independent exhibition space, where he curated more than 20 art exhibitions.
Advertising and Design Career
  • International Art Direction: Before shifting his focus toward fine arts education, Bassetto worked for over two decades in the creative departments of major advertising agencies. His design work has earned international accolades and took him abroad to work in both Mexico and the United Kingdom.
  • Academic Background: He holds a degree in Communications and completed his postgraduate studies specializing in Contemporary Painting.
Art Education and Mentorship
  • Creative Research: Since 2008, Bassetto has dedicated a significant portion of his career to independent research on the creative process, visual language, and the psychology of creativity.
  • Institutional Teaching: He served as a prominent Programme Leader and tutor for the British undergraduate programs at the Escola Britânica de Artes Criativas e Tecnologia (EBAC) from 2016 to 2020. []
  • Studio Pop: He continues to mentor students, visual artists, and design professionals on art theory and creative development through his educational initiative, @pop_studiopop.
