Steve Snider is a prominent New York-based contemporary analog collage artist, photographer, and award-winning former publishing creative director. After a highly successful 50-year career designing some of the literary world's most iconic book covers, Snider transitioned full-time into fine arts. He is best known for his massive, textured abstract collages that find "composition in the chaos" of urban decay.

Artistic Style and Process

• Urban Inspiration: Snider’s work is deeply rooted in cities. He photographs weathered, torn, and tattered billboards and street walls from around the world. 
• Wabi-Sabi Philosophy: His artistic approach is heavily inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, which finds immense beauty in things that are imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. [1]
• The "De-collage" Technique: In his studio, Snider makes large-scale prints of his street photography, tears them into raw fragments, and reconfigures them onto canvas. The resulting pieces blend true textures with trompe l'oeil visual illusions—where some paper rips and bubbles are real while others are flat photographs. 
• Vermeer Series: Recently, after participating in the Berlin Collage Expedition, Snider has evolved his style by blending traditional classical art elements (such as works by Johannes Vermeer) with his signature gritty photography.

• Design Legacy: Before transitioning to fine art, Snider had a distinguished 50-year career as an art director for major publishing houses, including 18 years as Vice President and Creative Director of St. Martin's Press.
